How to Add More Games to Your R36S?

The R36S comes packed with 15,000+ classic games, but what if you want to add your own favorites? Whether it’s a childhood SNES game or a rare PS1 title, this guide will show you how to safely add more games to your R36S handheld console.

We’ve added a full video tutorial in this article.

How to Add More Games to Your R36S

  1. 🎯 Step 1: Prepare Your microSD Card

Power off your R36S and remove the microSD card. Insert it into your computer using an SD card reader.

Tip: Use a high-speed microSD card (class 10 or higher), ideally 128GB or 256GB for large PS1 games.

  2. 📁 Step 2: Locate the ROM Folders

Once the SD card is open, navigate to the Roms folder. You’ll see subfolders like GBA, SNES, PS1, and more.

  3. 📥 Step 3: Add Your Game ROMs

Copy your downloaded ROMs into their respective folders:

    • .gba files → /Roms/GBA/
    • .sfc or .smc files → /Roms/SNES/
    • .bin + .cue/Roms/PS1/

Important: Use clean filenames without special characters to avoid errors.

  4. ✅ Step 4: Safely Eject the SD Card

Eject the SD card from your computer safely and reinsert it into your R36S device.

  5. 🔄 Step 5: Reboot & Refresh Game List

Turn on your R36S console. Browse to the appropriate emulator (e.g., PlayStation, GBA) and you should see your newly added games.

💡 Bonus Tips

  • Use custom covers: Some firmwares support custom artwork in a /covers folder.
  • ROM management: Use tools like EmuELEC's scraper or ROM sorter for clean organization.
  • Check compatibility: Not all ROMs work perfectly. Use trusted sources with verified compatibility.
